A Healthy Breakfast on the AGA Cast Iron Range

Any health guru will tell you porridge is a perfect start to the day and this recipe is particularly virtuous, as it needs only water, not milk.  Enjoy a healthy breakfast on the AGA cast iron range with this simple, and delicious, recipe.  With the AGA Total Control cast iron range, you may cook it two different ways.

1) On the hotplate, or

2) Over-night cooking, which means waking up to a warm, no-effort breakfast.

Both options will provide four (4) servings.

Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats, old-fashioned oats

3 ¼ cups water

¼ teaspoon sea salt

Over-Night Instructions

Bring the water and oatmeal to the boil in a 4 quart AGA saucepan on the Boiling Plate, stirring often. Once at a boil, move to Simmering Plate and simmer for 1minute.

Cover and transfer to the oven grid shelf on the floor of the Slow Cook Oven and leave overnight, about 6-7 hours. In the morning take the pan from the oven and stir well and top with your favorite toppings then serve.

Hotplate Instructions

Bring the water and oatmeal to the boil in a 4 quart AGA saucepan on the Boiling Plate, stirring often. Once at a boil, move to Simmering Plate and simmer for 5minutes, stirring well. Remove from heat and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Fruit compote

Add 1 teaspoon of molasses and sprinkle with brown sugar

A dash or two of Cinnamon and sprinkle of brown sugar

3 Tablespoons of raisins

1 teaspoon of ground flaxseed, a dash of nutmeg and a sprinkle of brown sugar

French Toast with Blueberries

French Toast is a great way to start the day! Even better, enjoying French Toast smothered in authentic Canadian Maple Syrup and fresh blueberries! Here is a simple recipe you may create on the hotplate of your cast iron AGA range.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf bread
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. In shallow bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and salt.
  2. Dip bread slice into egg mixture, turning to coat. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Using a small amount of oil, prepare the Simmering Plate.
  4. Place the bread slices atop the Simmering Plate, nearest the center.
  5. Cook slices about 2 minutes turning once. Transfer to a clean plate.
  6. Place a pad of butter atop the slices.
  7. Pour maple syrup atop the slices of French Toast. Garnish with blueberries and sprinkle with a bit of powdered sugar before serving.

Spanish Frittata for your AGA Total Control inspired by The Canning Diva®

Create a colorful Spanish Frittata on the AGA and "wow" your guests! One of many fun breakfast recipes you can make on the cast iron AGA range. Starting on the Simmering Plate and finishing to a golden brown in the Baking Oven, this recipe is sure to delight!

Ingredients

  • 2-3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ pound chorizo sausage
  • 5-6 medium russet potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
  • 8 eggs, scrambled
  • 6-8 grape tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/3 cup red onions, sliced
  • 1 cup red bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ cup Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp fresh or dried Thyme
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped fine
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Sour cream
  • ¼ cup fresh chives, diced

Instructions

  1. In a medium AGA non-stick skillet, fry the chorizo sausage on the boiling plate and cook through. Place cooked sausage in bowl and set aside.
  2. Using the drippings, add the olive oil and sliced potatoes. Fry potatoes on the boiling plate until lightly browned and slightly softened.
  3. Add Thyme, a dash or two of each the salt and pepper and the cheddar cheese to the scrambled eggs and blend well with a fork. Place eggs into the skillet atop the potatoes.
  4. Using a spatula, move and position the potatoes so each area has been surrounded adequately with the egg mixture. Add the sausage, bell peppers and onions and position again so the vegetables are spread throughout the frittata.
  5. As it cooks on the hotplate and the eggs begin to get fluffy, adorn the top of the frittata with the grape tomatoes slices and place the entire skillet in the middle of the baking oven using heat resistant mitts. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until top has become golden brown.

Goat Cheese and Chive Omelet

This delicious Goat Cheese and Chive Omelet breakfast recipe is sure to delight! Made fresh on the Simmering Plate of your cast iron AGA range.

Ingredients:

3 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon butter, melted
4 oz. goat cheese
Fresh chives or other herb, chopped

Instructions:

The miracle of the AGA allows you to make this delectable omelet without a pan! Whisk melted butter and eggs. Place a round sheet of Bake-o-glide on the Simmering Plate, then carefully pour the egg mixture onto the Bake-o-Glide. Let cook until set then put half of the cheese and half of the herbs on top before folding over. Let set again and top with remaining cheese and herbs and fold a final time. Slide onto plate and serve.
